Sea Girt Paddleboards & SUP Rentals
What is stand up paddle boarding?
Stand up paddle boarding, also known as stand up paddle surfing, originating in Hawaii. It is an offshoot of surfing, but unlike traditional surfing where the surfer sits on the board waiting for a wave, the surfer on a stand up paddle boarder stands on the board and uses a paddle to move through the water.
Stand up paddle boarding, or SUP, has become so incredibly popular recently that in 2013 it was listed it as the outdoor sporting activity with the most first-time participants in the United States!
SUP has many variations, like “flat water paddling for outdoor recreation, fitness, or sightseeing, racing on lakes, large rivers and canals, surfing on ocean waves, paddling in river rapids (whitewater SUP), SUP Yoga.”
